JOE CERVELIN won a monster drawing
contest in first grade. After living in the
shadows of early success for two
decades, he scored a BA from Sarah
Lawrence College and an MFA in
Creative Writing from the University of
San Francisco.

Joe's writing has appeared in

Sarah Lawrence Review, Fork Knife

Administration
, and elsewhere.  His
lyrical essay, "The Beach as Office,"
won Best Writing Award at the 2007
San Francisco Writers Conference.

As an emerging author and multimedia
collaborator, Joe has served as a
guest panelist and reader for SFSU's
Writers on Writing series, LitQuake's
Annual LitCrawl 2008, Bernal Yoga
Literary Series, InsideStoryTime (SF
Weekly's Best New Reading Series
2006), and other literary events.

Beyond spoken word, he records and
performs hip hop as the Backwards
Ninja (one half of Microphone Hippie).
